Robredo elated by surveys

/ 05:22 AM March 17, 2016

BALAYAN, Batangas—Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo on Wednesday attributed her improving performance in pre-election surveys on the vice presidential race to her strong public rebuke of the Marcos dictatorship.

The 51-year-old widow, who was thrust into the political limelight in 2013 following the death of her husband, the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, said she herself was surprised with her performance in the recent  surveys.

In the latest Social Weather Stations  poll, Robredo was the biggest gainer, jumping from 19 to 24 percentage points—four percentage points behind leading rival Chiz Escudero and two points behind Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“Of course I’m very happy,” Robredo told reporters.

Asked if her strong stance against martial law could be the reason for the improvement in her ratings, she said: “For me, yes. It seems that among us [vice presidential candidates], it’s only me who’s very vocal about martial law.” Marlon Ramos
