Aquino praises PSG
President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday marked the 30th anniversary of the Presidential Security Group (PSG), the unit whose primary task is to guard him, with gratitude and praise for its exemplary work since 1986.
Aquino said the PSG of today was a far cry from its predecessor, the Presidential Security Command (PSC), which served as a virtual private army of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his family.
“The PSC implemented whatever crossed the mind of the dictator… You may have forgotten that even treasure hunting needed permission from the Presidential Security Command,” Aquino said.
In his speech, PSG commander Rear Admiral Raul Ubando said the PSG “will always be the government’s pillar of strength in upholding liberty and democracy as it vows to serve and protect at all costs the person that our nation has chosen to be at its helm, the President of the Republic of the Philippines.”
