Baby killed as robbers break into North Cotabato home

/ 12:37 PM October 14, 2011

COTABATO CITY, Philippines –Unidentified men armed with iron bars and wooden clubs  attacked a family of four in a remote village in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, on Thursday and killed a three-month-old baby girl before fleeing with some P26,000 in cash and jewelry, the police said Friday.

Senior Inspector Donald Cabigas, Pigcawayan police chief, said members of the Odis family were sleeping around 2 a.m. when three armed men broke into the house.

He said the man of the house, Nasrudin Odis, 41,  was roused from sleep as the robbers rummaged through their valuables and tried to fight them off. This prompted the robbers  to hit him and the other victims, Cabigas said.

Odis, his wife Faidza, 35; and daughter Normina, 18, were later taken to a hospital by neighbors.
