Parañaque ridding riverside of 800 slum families
AROUND 800 families of informal settler families residing in “high-risk” areas in Parañaque City are to be relocated within the year, based on a newly forged agreement between local officials and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Feb. 4 agreement stipulates that the DILG will release a P90-million in assistance to the city for the construction of micro-medium-rise buildings for the relocated residents, in coordination with the National Housing Authority.
Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez noted that some of the informal settler families living along the banks of Parañaque River in Barangays La Huerta, Tambo and Sto. Niño will be transferred to the 200-unit housing project in Bagong Parañaque (PAR) Homes II along C5-Road Extension.
“Since 2013, more than 300 informal settlers have already been relocated from waterways in Parañaque,” Olivarez added. He recalled that 144 housing units had earlier been to turned over beneficiaries of PAR Homes I. Maricar B. Brizuela
