CEBU CITY– A village chief in Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island in Cebu was shot and wounded early Saturday night by still unknown assailants, police said.

Basak Barangay Captain Isabelito Darnayla was headed for the village center driving his pick up about 7:30 p.m. when he was waylaid just about 400 meters from the Barangay Hall, said Chief Insp. Mark Gifter Sucalit, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s City Intelligence Branch (CIB).

Sucalit said Darnayla, 53, was forced to stop his vehicle when a tricycle suddenly blocked his path. Right then, an unknown assailant came on foot and shot him several times.
