MANILA, Philippines — A 13-year-old student and her friend were held in police custody Saturdayafternoon after they stabbed her schoolmates, supposedly because of a long-standing misunderstanding.

The 13-year-old and her 16-year-old friend, an out-of-school youth, now face charges of frustrated homicide after they stabbed two sisters in front of the Manuel L. Quezon Museum inside the Quezon Memorial Circle in Barangay Central at around 1 p.m. on Saturday.

SPO2 Hazel Daquioag, a case investigator of the Quezon City Police District’s Kamuning station, said that the attack on the siblings was prompted by a long-standing misunderstanding between the suspects and the sisters.  She, however, didn’t say what the argument was all about.

Daquioag said that minutes before the attack, the siblings, both second year students at the Flora Ylagan High School, had just finished taking their examinations and were on their way home when they were confronted by the suspects and their group.

To avoid further tension, the siblings decided to head to the Quezon Memorial Circle. Unknown to them, they were being followed by the suspects.

Upon reaching the museum, the two lunged at the victims and stabbed them using a kitchen knife and a cuticle pusher. One sister was hit in the underarm, while the other was hit in the shoulder.

The suspects tried to run away but was quickly arrested by patrolling security guards, who were able to recover the kitchen knife used to stab one of the victims. The siblings, on the other hand, were brought to the East Avenue Medical Center and are now out of harm’s way.

Daquioag said that the minor-aged suspects have been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. SFM
