‘Ramon’ leaves 7 dead, affects over 20,000 in Visayas, Mindanao–NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon “Ramon” left seven people dead after ravaging the Visayas region, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 23,585 persons or 5,606 families were affected in the provinces of Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Capiz, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Southern Leyte, Misamis Oriental, South Cotabato and Dinagat Island, it said.

Two were reported missing and three were injured, the latest bulletin of the NDRMMC said.

Around 18,156 persons or 3,258 families were served inside and outside evacuation centers, it added.

Citing consolidated reports from Coast Guard districts and stations, the NDRRMC said that as of 11p.m. Wednesday, 9,856 passengers remained stranded in the areas affected by Ramon.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development appropriated P64.18 million, P7.5 million of which would be standby funds and P56.67 million in relief supplies in all DSWD field offices along the typhoon path, it added.

The Department of Education in the National Capital Region also suspended classes Thursday at the kindergarten level, while classes at the primary and secondary levels were left to the discretion of guardians/parents, local DepEd, or local government units concerned.
