Did You Know: Jose Rizal Monument

04:50 AM December 29, 2015

The monument of Jose Rizal in Luneta, Manila, was unveiled on Dec. 30, 1913, 17 years after his execution.

On Sept. 28, 1901, the Philippine Assembly allotted a portion of land in the field formerly known as Bagumbayan for the construction of the monument, which consists of an obelisk and a bronze statue of the national hero.

Under the statue is a plaque featuring Rizal’s last poem, Mi Ultimo Adios. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
