Estrada sends SWAT team to Divisoria
TIRED of the “anarchy” in Divisoria, the Manila City government has ordered the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Manila Police District to restore order in the popular bargain shopping destination.
Ver Eustaquio, head of the city’s Task Force Organized Vending, said the SWAT team would join traffic enforcers, members of the Meisic and Moriones police stations, barangay officials and civilian volunteers in their anticriminality and road clearing operations in the area.
The deployment of the SWAT unit as “reinforcements” was ordered by Mayor Joseph Estrada who was dismayed by the traffic situation in Divisoria.
“We [also] received a lot of complaints ranging from snatching to robbery to murder. So we also want to address these crimes while addressing the traffic problems,” Eustaquio said.
He added that Estrada ordered them to sustain the road operations throughout the year. “This is just the start,” Eustaquio said. Aie Balagtas See
