Pagasa: LPA nears PAR; landfall in E. Visayas, Bicol possible

A trough of a low pressure area is affecting Southern Mindanao, the state weather bureau said Friday.

The LPA being monitored by the weather bureau may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Friday night or Saturday morning.

It may intensify while it remained over the Pacific Ocean and might make landfall over Eastern Visayas or the Bicol region. Tropical cyclones at this time of the year have more chances of making landfall but there is also a possibility that it will recurve away from the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The LPA was last observed 1,700 kilometers east of Mindanao.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato and Davao Del Sur, Pagasa said.

Cloudy skies with light rains are expected over Batanes and the islands of Calayan and Babuyan due to the northeast monsoon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to north with slight to moderate seas, Pagasa said. IDL
