Movies, Pacquiao fight videos readied to lift Apec cops’ morale—PNP

POLICE officers deployed for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) security will be treated to a movie after working extended shifts for the week-long summit.

Previous fights of boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and blockbuster film “Heneral Luna,” which depicts the gallantry of the first Filipino general Antonio Luna, and other movies will be shown to police officers who have been asked to leave their units to render service for the Apec meeting.

These were among the Philippine National Police’s move to uplift the morale of the troops, some of them came from the provinces and sent to the field to protect foreign delegates attending the Apec, guard the streets and maintain peace and order during the Apec week.

But Police Director Juanito Vano of the PNP’s Directorate for Logistics said some of the officers have requested them to set up a live stream of the Apec meetings to keep themselves updated with the event attended by international leaders and dignitaries.

On the third day of the deployment of Apec police officers, PNP chief Director General Ricardo Marquez brought Vano with him during the inspection of troops in areas near the Apec venues.

They checked on the condition of the officers, particularly their billeting areas and food ration.

During the inspection, Vano also gave out chocolates as energy bars to the troops.

After the inspection, Vano said they found out that they needed more tents and rain coats, aside from the 7,500 items they procured before Apec, for those on field duty.

Some of the troopers, meanwhile, asked Marquez if their uniforms could be altered when they are being sent to rallies. Instead of pinned badges and nameplates, they are asking if these could be embroidered.

Marquez assured them that they would consider making some changes to the standard police uniform.

“I wanted to hear from the troopers themselves if the assistance the logistics team had given them is sufficient,” said Marquez.
