Train hits truck in southern Germany, at least 1 dead
BERLIN — A train hit a truck at a crossing in southern Germany on Thursday night and at least one person was killed, police said.
Other people were injured in the accident late Thursday near Freihung, in eastern Bavaria, the dpa news agency reported. The truck, which was towing a low-loader with a military vehicle, apparently got stuck on the tracks and was hit by the train, setting off an explosion, it said.
Photos from the site showed that the front of the regional train’s first car was blackened by fire and the windows of the cab blown out.
Police said one body had been recovered by early Friday morning, and rescuers were still looking for the train driver. Two people are believed to have been in the truck, one of whom was able to get out.
An unspecified number of people were injured.
