1 dead in Ermita shoot-out

THREE Manila policemen, out on bail after being arrested and charged in court for an alleged extortion attempt, engaged Friday afternoon three suspected FX taxi robbers in an alleged shoot-out in Ermita. The alleged shoot-out left one of the suspects dead and another arrested. A third suspect escaped. SPO1 Gary June Gading, PO2 Fernando Coloma, and PO1 Renato Martinez, all assigned with the Manila City Hall Public Assistance (Chapa) and the Manila Police District (MPD), were conducting anticrime operations in front of the Metropolitan Theater on Padre Burgos and Antonio Villegas Streets in Ermita at around 5:30 p.m. when they chanced upon an alleged robbery in progress inside the FX taxi. CCTV in Muntinlupa stores

SHOPS and stores in Muntinlupa City now have to comply with a city ordinance requiring each store to install a closed circuit television camera (CCTV). Owners of these establishments who fail or refuse to do so would be fined and their permits to operate will be revoked. According to the City Council, the ordinance was enacted to encourage the adoption and use of CCTV systems throughout the city to intensify drive against criminality. Based on the ordinance, which was enacted on Sept. 12, 2011, all private commercial or business establishments with a minimum capitalization of P1 million are mandated to install a CCTV or video surveillance system. All establishments were given three months from the date of the approval of the ordinance to comply. However, those which have already installed CCTV prior to the effectivity of the ordinance were given four months to conform with the requirements set by the measure. Tina G. Santos
