‘Playgirls’ manager denies being invited by politician

The manager of the female dancers who performed during an event after a Liberal Party (LP) oath-taking in Laguna denied Thursday that they were invited by politicians to the event.

Michael Tupaz, manager of the Playgirls, told INQUIRER.net that the group were booked by an individual he identified only as “Joanna” to perform in a birthday party.

The scantily clad female dancers with their suggestive choreography were seen performing against a backdrop bearing the name and face of Agarao and greetings for his “birthday celebration” and “40th year in service.”
Netizens were quick to react, saying the performance was “lewd.”
“It’s part of our show. It’s entertainment. We are there to entertain people,” Tupaz said, adding that they perform not only in the Philippines but around the world as well.

He said that they were not aware that politicians were present during the celebration.

He said that the dancers were already dressed when they arrived at the event and immediately left afterwards.

Before the girls’ performance, the emcee during the event reportedly said the dancers were the “surprise gift” of Metro Manila Development Authority chair and senatorial hopeful Francis Tolentino for those who attended the gathering.

Tolentino, however, denied the reports, saying “the emcee probably got misinformed.”

“I was just a guest at the birthday party. I did not bring any dancer or singer. The emcee probably got misinformed,” he said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.

On the other hand, Agarao said he found nothing wrong with the lewd performance of scantily clad women dancing during his birthday celebration.
