Typhoon ‘Jenny’ to skirt North, bring rain to Luzon, Visayas

Gaining strength over the weekend, Typhoon “Jenny” (international name: Dujuan) is threatening extreme northern Luzon and is expected to draw monsoon rains over Luzon and the Visayas.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised public storm warning signal No. 1 over the Batanes group of islands as the typhoon’s maximum sustained winds intensified to 185 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 220 kph.

Based on its current track, however, the typhoon will not hit land and will be out of the country by Tuesday, Pagasa said.

Moving west northwest at 15 kph, the eye of the storm was forecast to be 375 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, Sunday afternoon.

Travel warning

The typhoon has combined with the southwest monsoon and will bring “light to moderate” rains over Luzon and the Visayas, the weather bureau said.

Pagasa warned against sea travel in northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon and Samar province.

Typhoon Jenny is the only storm to hit the country this month. Pagasa had earlier forecast two to four typhoons this month.
