/ 07:07 AM October 06, 2011

TEAM Emilmich of Michael and Emily Badon outlasted businessman Ronel Tiu’s Glenzen Urethane Paints, 86-81 last Tuesday night to grab the championship title in the 2011-Mawin’s Kitchen Basketball Cup (MKBC), 2nd Conference  basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorable gym in Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Emilmich got a slim one-point lead, 14-13 in the opening period with diminutive pointguard Val Llenes scoring 10 of those points. It then outscored Glenzen, 28-24 in the second quarter to grab a five-point lead, 42-37 behind the tandem of high-leaping center Beboy Potencioso and Niño Iso to rule the half.

In the 3rd period, the Painters responded with a 26-24 rally led by Lito Navarro and Aikan Cabañero while the final quarter was an air-tight battle of wits and basketball skills that resulted in several deadlocks and lead changes. However, the trio of Beboy Potencioso, Niño Iso and Jomel Lanutan scored crucial baskets down the stretch enabling Emilmich to clinch the crown.
