Carpio: ‘Certain deficiencies’ found in citizenship case vs Poe

THE Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) found “certain deficiencies” in a quo warranto case filed against Senator Grace Poe over her being a foundling or stateless, Associate Justice Antonio Carpio told Senate reporters on Wednesday.

Carpio chairs the 9-member SET that received the case filed against Poe by defeated senatorial bet Rizalito David.

“We issued an order that the petitioner corrects certain deficiencies and after that we will meet,” he said. He did not elaborate.

Asked if the tribunal could settle the issue before the filing of certificates of candidacy in October, Carpio said: “We will try to settle it as soon as possible.”

Poe earlier said that the filing of the case was politically motivated to stop her possible run in 2016.

While she has yet to decide whether or not to seek a higher post next year, she already emerged as the voters’ top choice for president based on the June survey of the Pulse Asia.
