Geothermal firm lauded for campaign to save forests

DUMAGUETE CITY—A Lopez-owned company has been lauded for its efforts to nurture forests in its project sites through continued reforestation and forest protection efforts.

Dr. Paciencia Milan, former president of the Visayas State University, said this in her evaluation of Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) 2014 environmental performance.

The report was in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) most widely used sustainability reporting framework in the world.

“It is noteworthy that EDC has committed to the restoration of our degraded upland areas to ensure sustainability,” said Milan, 2012-2014 chair of the Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation Inc.

Every year, EDC releases a performance report following the GRI framework.

The company also seeks external evaluation for its economic, environmental and social performance as part of its sustainability reporting.

Its third-party host, University of Asia & the Pacific, formed a panel of experts for a review of the company’s performance in 2014.

This was released through the company’s 2014 performance report, titled “Execute and Deliver.”
