If Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II becomes the president of the country, is Korina Sanchez-Roxas ready to become a first lady?

Sanchez has not given a categorical response to the question but she said she’s “allergic” to the term “first lady” because “it connotes that there’s going to be a second lady and a third.”

Roxas has been declared the presidential candidate of Liberal Party in the 2016 elections. President Benigno Aquino III on Friday endorsed Roxas, saying he’s a man with clear integrity and experience.

The announcement was made at the historic Club Filipino in San Juan City where Roxas declared in 2010 that he was giving up his ambitions for the presidency to give way to Aquino, who was then a senator.

Back in 2009 when Roxas was poised to run for the top post, Sanchez said she was ready to leave her career as a broadcast journalist. Now that Roxas’ bid is certain, she says she is “ready again” to give up her career for her husband.

“I’ve been ready in 2009 and I’m ready again now. You know there’s a much bigger calling for my husband and as a wife, and the reason why I chose to marry him is because I am so attracted to that calling as well so wherever he goes, I will leave everything behind to be beside him,” she said.

She also revealed to reporters after Roxas’ endorsement that she had realized that journalism was not her calling.

“Charity is my calling, not journalism and I just realized that. I’ve been going around for 30 years, 30 years in public service as a journalist. And I felt that my calling is to help the poor. Gustong gusto kong nakikita yung mukha ng mga bata kapag binibigyan ko sila ng tsinelas,” she said.
