Pagasa downgrades rainfall warning in Manila from orange to yellow

The state weather bureau downgraded the rainfall warning raised over Metro Manila and Bataan from orange to yellow at 5 a.m., but raised the orange warning in Bulacan, Zambales, Cavite and Batangas due to the monsoon rain induced by Typhoon “Falcon” (international name: Chan-Hom).

Orange warning means flooding is possible due to intense rains (15 to 30 millimeters/ hour), and residents should be alerted to possible evacuation, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The rain was expected in the next three hours from the start of the alert.

Besides Metro Manila and Bataan, the yellow warning was hoisted over Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga (which were also yellow-warned earlier at 2 a.m.), Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.

Flooding is possible in low-lying areas due to heavy rains (7.5 to 15 mm/hr) under a yellow alert.

Pagasa also said light to moderate rain was affecting Quezon province.
