The NFA has not issued permits for the importation of rice from China so when it is sold here, we assume that it has been smuggled into the country. This type of rice poses a lot of risks because it has not been checked by the NFA to see if it is safe to eat. —Customs Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno after the Bureau of Customs and National Food Authority seized smuggled Chinese rice from two stores in Binondo, Manila
