Trillanes: You’ve no right to speak against Aquino

SENATOR Antonio Trillanes IV blasted Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday, saying he has no right to speak against the supposed failures of the administration of President Benigno Aquino III because he was in the President’s Cabinet for the past five years.

At a media forum, Trillanes said that while the Aquino administration was “callous” and a “failure” in some instances, Binay should be “the last person” to criticize the administration.

“He should be the last person to say that [the Aquino administration being callous and a failure] because he countenanced it for five years.  Why are you speaking against the Aquino government just now? He was not the perfect spokesman for that,” Trillanes said.

He explained that while he disagreed on some government policies, such as the K to 12 Program, he remained an ally of the administration.

Trillanes then went on to defend the Aquino administration, saying that it is not fostering selective justice, contrary to the vice president’s claim. He cited that the cases filed against Palace allies on the Priority Development Assistance Fund show how the justice system is rolling under the Aquino government.

The vocal critic of the vice president also said that Binay’s speech on Wednesday will be remembered by Filipinos as a case of the vice president’s ‘self-destruction.’

“What Vice President Binay did was an act of desperation. In this case, he was the one who subjected himself to destruction,” Trillanes said.

Binay resigned from being the head of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and the overseer of the government’s programs on overseas Filipino workers on Monday.

On Wednesday, the vice president slammed the Aquino administration as “insensitive and bumbling.” He also accused the Aquino leadership of committing sins against the Filipino people.
