DOTC: No such thing as MRT ‘excuse slips’ for passengers

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) on Tuesday denied reports that the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT 3) was issuing “excuse slips” to passengers inconvenienced by glitches in the said train system.

In a statement, DOTC said the MRT was releasing only incident reports. However, they clarified they had no control as to where the passengers would use these reports.

“At most, a copy of relevant incident reports may be released to any requesting member of the general public for whatever useful purposes this may serve, in line with the policy of transparency,” the transportation department said.

CNN Philippines earlier reported that incident reports were being issued by the MRT 3. The report contains the date, time, location of and reason for the delay of the train.

The incident report would be released to the requesting passenger within four to five days, the report added.

Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate slammed the alleged “excuse letters” of the MRT 3 as “pathetic.”

Meanwhile, the DOTC said the problems plaguing the train system were being addressed.

The transportation department said additional train cars and replacement of 7,000 meters of rails would commence this month.
