Navotas jail yields drugs; Caloocan jail loses inmate

More than P500,000 in cash and suspected illegal drugs were confiscated from an inmate during a surprise inspection of the Navotas City Jail early Friday morning.

A report to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-National Capital Region (BJMP-NCR) said the money and 30 plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride were retrieved from the cell of Carlos Roldan, alias “Patok.”

Insp. Aris Villaester, public information officer of BJMP-NCR, said they are now investigating how the contraband managed to get inside Roldan’s cell.

“If we find out that jail personnel had something to do with the entry of the contraband, they can face dismissal from the service, depending on the extent of their involvement,” he said.

The inspection was requested by the jail warden, Chief Insp. Godfrey Galigo. It took place a day after the BJMP sacked Caloocan City jail warden, Supt. Paul Moreno, for the escape of an inmate from that facility.

Reports said the inmate, who is facing murder and drug pushing charges, managed to jump to the other side of the jail. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
