On June 3, 1863, Manila was hit by a strong earthquake. One of the structures destroyed was the palace of the governor-general in Intramuros. He was forced to transfer his residence to Malacañang, which later became the official residence of the country’s chief executive. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
