Skyway ready for school opening

/ 05:37 AM June 02, 2015

The Southern Tollways System composed of Skyway O&M Corp. (Somco), Manila Toll Expressways Systems Inc. (Mates) and Star Tollway Corp. (STC)—operators of the Skyway System, South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) and Star Tollway, respectively—will be conducting Oplan Ligtas Biyahe, Balik Eskwela 2015 until June 15 to ensure safer and more convenient travel.

To prepare for motorists leaving or returning to Metro Manila for the opening of classes, Somco, Mates and STC have implemented several road improvement and traffic enhancement measures. On the Skyway at-grade section, for instance, where the Bicutan and the Sucat interchanges are perennial choke points, Somco has opened alternative exits for southbound motorists to ease heavy traffic at the toll plaza.

The structural rehabilitation and asphalt resurfacing of the Alabang Viaduct, a traffic-dense stretch of SLEx, have also been completed on top of the repavement works in both directions between Filinvest and Sta. Rosa. In the first two weeks of June, Somco, Mates and STC will deploy additional traffic enforcers and motorcycle units, especially at identified entry/exit choke points.

Medical emergency and towing services will also be made available to motorists who can call the Skyway System hotline at 7767777; SLEx hotline at 0917-OUR-SLEx (6877539); and Star emergency numbers at 0917-5117827.
