“Be ready for your job search, prepare your application documents,” Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz reminded the jobseekers, saying this would maximize their chances at getting hired on the spot.

Among the documents required by employers at the job fair are resumé or curriculum vitae; 2 x 2 ID pictures (bring extra copies for multiple job applications); certificate of employment for those formerly employed; diploma and/or transcript of records; and authenticated birth certificate.

“Being prepared will give our jobseekers higher chances of finding a job suited to their qualifications as employers can already prescreen their documents and interview those qualified,” Baldoz said.

She said having all preemployment documents readily available would allow employers faster and easier job selection and processing.

“This will increase the chances of applicants to be hired on the spot,” Baldoz said.

As a general procedure for job application on May 1, new jobseekers will be required to fill out registration forms which are to be provided at the job fairs.

“Employers will interview, preselect and hire on the spot qualified workers, but if the applicant is not qualified, he may opt to look for other vacancies,” the labor secretary said.

Baldoz said jobs as well as livelihood opportunities would be aplenty at the fairs, which will be open to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, fresh college graduates, graduates of training institutions, displaced workers and employees seeking advancement.

Overseas jobs

“A total of 251,677 vacancies are ready for jobseekers in the whole country. Of this number, 86,745, or 34.47 percent, are local job vacancies, while 160,525, or 63.78 percent, are overseas job opportunities,” said Baldoz.

A total of 1,398 employers from different regions are participating in this year’s Labor Day job fairs.

For the DOLE-National Capital Region, its Labor Day job fair will be held at the Forum 1 and 2 of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City. The DOLE-NCR has confirmed the participation of 75 local and 28 foreign employers.

“The 2015 Labor Day celebration is anchored on the theme, ‘Disenteng Trabaho at Kabuhayan, Alay Natin sa Bayan,’ which expresses the DOLE’s effort with its private tripartite sector partners to focus on facilitating workers’ and employers’ search for jobs and the creation of livelihoods toward developing the country’s top resource and achieving decent and productive jobs that will contribute to economic growth,” Baldoz said.

Baldoz said the industries with the biggest number of vacancies in the Labor Day job fairs are manufacturing, transport, storage and communications. Others are community, social and personal service activities; wholesale and retail trade; and repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and personal household goods.
