PNP: Metro safer

Do you feel safer? You should, according to improving crime statistics being cited by Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.

Months after calling on law enforcers to apply more brains and not just brawn as they go about their jobs, Roxas last week commended the Philippine National Police for its “deliberate, programmatic and sustained” campaign which he said helped bring down criminality in Metro Manila.

Citing latest data from the PNP, he said the police recorded 345 robbery and car theft cases from April 6 to 12, reflecting a 62 percent drop in the average weekly recorded crime in the capital from 2014.

He attributed the drop to the implementation of Oplan Lambat-Sibat which mainly saw intensified manhunts and wider checkpoint operations. Marlon Ramos

Participants may submit digital or film-based entries printed in full color on any brand of photo paper in 8R size (8 inches x 10 inches).

These should be submitted to the MBC office, Sotto Street, CCP Complex, Pasay City with a self-addressed stamped brown envelope together with two copies of the Aliwan Fiesta Photo competition entry form which will be published in the Manila Bulletin on April 23-25, 28 and May 1 and 2.

Deadline for submission of entries is on May 15 at 3 p.m. Complete details are downloadable from the www.aliwanfiesta.com.ph.
