‘Euro general’ De la Paz granted furlough to attend sister’s wake
Former Philippine National Police (PNP) Comptroller Eliseo de la Paz has been granted an overnight furlough by the Sandiganbayan to attend the wake of his sister.
In a resolution, the antigraft court Fourth Division granted Police Director De la Paz furlough from April 10 5 p.m. to April 11 5 p.m. to attend the wake and burial of his sister Julita de la Paz Gascon at St. John Bosco Parish Church, Makati City, and Heritage Park, Taguig City, respectively.
De la Paz’s sister died at age 69 due to multiple organ failure and ovarian cyst.
The police have been directed to secure the furlough and bring back De la Paz to the PNP Custodial Center, where he is detained, not later than 7 p.m.
De la Paz is one of the police officials facing malversation and graft charges over the alleged irregular granting of allowances to a group of police generals who attended a conference in Russia in 2008.
De la Paz, who was acting as the disbursing officer for the delegation that included the wives of police officials, was stopped from boarding his flight at Moscow airport after he and his wife were found to be carrying the undeclared amount of 105,000 euros (P6.9 million).

De la Paz lost his sister a few months after his mother Dominga de la Paz died in October last year, during which he was granted by the court a 24-hour furlough for humanitarian reasons. RC
