Tax break eyed for differently abled
With the greater needs of disabled Filipinos and the people who take care of them, the government should give them tax breaks in order to ease the challenges they could face in their daily lives, according to Sen. Paolo Benigno Aquino.
Aquino is pushing for the approval of a bill that would exempt persons with disabilities from paying the 12-percent value-added tax.
His bill would also give the benefactors of persons with disabilities, whether married or single, an additional yearly tax exemption of P25,000 per qualified dependent, but not exceeding four. This would be in addition to their regular personal deductions.
The proposed benefits would be amendments to the existing Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities. Leila B. Salaverria
