KIDAPAWAN CITY—Authorities at the district jail in Barangay Amas here had intercepted an estimated half kilo of “shabu,” which was hidden in loaves of bread.

Chief Insp. Jesus Singson, warden of the district jail, had said a jail trustee noticed something unusual from the loaves of bread that he was made to bring to an inmate after it was dropped on Thursday by unidentified men at the jail’s sentry.

Singson said the jail trustee took particular notice of the package’s weight because it was heavier than how it looked.

When the loaves of bread were inspected, packets of shabu stuffed into them were found, he said, adding that it could easily fetch P2 million on the streets.

North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza had earlier ordered jail authorities to tighten inspection at the jail following persistent reports about the proliferation of drugs inside the facility. RC
