Today, March 23, is the 35th death anniversary of businessman and Senate President Gil Puyat. Born on Sept. 1, 1907, he became the youngest dean of the University of the Philippines when he was appointed to the College of Business Administration at age 33. Puyat served in the Senate from 1951 to 1973. As a legislator, one of his major contributions was the Budget Act, a landmark law which mandated that the national budget must include in its catalogue a schedule of projects and an auditing of achievements. In 1982, two years after his death, Buendia Avenue in Makati City was renamed in his honor by virtue of Batas Pambansa Blg. 312. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
