Sen. Gregorio Honasan II on Wednesday denied that he had planned to kill the dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his family as former National Security Adviser Jose T. Almonte alleged in his memoir launched on Wednesday.

In “Endless Journey: a Memoir,” Almonte, founder of the Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM), wrote that Honasan, a core member of the group, planned to lead the force that would attack Malacañang and kill the Marcoses.

But Honasan said the allegation that he had wanted to kill Marcos was “a lie.” He also said Almonte’s story that he dissuaded Honasan from launching coup attempts against former President Corazon Aquino was “not supported by fact.”

“My own take is you don’t have to lie or distort history to sell a book,” Honasan told reporters at the Senate.

He said other RAM members could be asked about the matter. Almonte, as spiritual adviser of the RAM, was kept out of the planning, he said.

Honasan also said he had cleared the matter up with Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and added that he wanted to move forward.

“I wanted to clear the air and move forward. Can you imagine the breach of good faith? We are colleagues in the Senate and at the back of everybody’s minds is a doubt that we wanted to harm [them],” he said.

Marcos’ response was, “We know the truth, and you are telling the truth,” Honasan quoted Marcos as saying.
