MANILA, Philippines–The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) marks its 64th founding anniversary this year. On Jan. 30, 1951, the Social Welfare Commission and the President’s Action Committee on Social Amelioration were merged into the Social Welfare Administration (SWA) which marked the beginning of an integrated public welfare program in the country. The SWA was elevated into a department by virtue of Republic Act No. 5416, or the Social Welfare Act of 1968. Currently, the central office of DSWD is located in Batasan Hills, Quezon City.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
