Topless models gone from Page 3 of UK’s Sun
LONDON, United Kingdom — Has the sun set on the topless models of Britain’s tabloid press?
For 45 years, the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid The Sun has featured topless models called Page 3 girls — photos that have long drawn protests from feminists.
On Monday, it showed model Rosie Huntington-Whitely wearing a bra.
The Guardian newspaper reported The Sun management had made a “landmark decision” to drop the bare breasts.
The Sun’s Irish edition stopped using topless models in 2013. Last year Murdoch said he found Page 3 “old-fashioned, but readers seem to disagree.”
It was not clear whether the cover-up was permanent. Spokesman Dylan Sharpe tweeted that Page 3 would remain “in the same place it’s always been — between page 2 and page 4.” He did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
