MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang called on employers to give due consideration to their employees who might fail to report for work on Wednesday due to floods caused by Typhoon “Pedring.”

“There are instances when the place of work isn’t flooded but the residences of the workers are,” Undersecretary Abigail Valte said in making the appeal for the distressed workers.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda earlier made an appeal to employers to also consider the welfare of their employees on the issue of having to report for work despite heavy rains and floods.

Lacierda, nonetheless, acknowledged that such relief for the workers lies in the discretion of the employers.
