MANILA, Philippines—It’s “another display of hypocrisy.”

Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco, interim president of United Nationalist Alliance, slammed Senator Alan Peter Cayetano for claiming that Vice President Jejomar Binay tried to use Pag-Ibig funds for a political advertisement about three years ago.

Tiangco pointed out that Cayetano has been appearing in political ads about Taguig when he is not even the mayor of the city.

“The cost of the Cayetano ads has been estimated at around P500 million but the senator has not been candid about who is paying for the ads and if Taguig funds were used,” Tiangco said in statement on Thursday.

Cayetano on Wednesday accused Binay of attempting to use Pag-Ibig Funds to run a political ad but was opposed by the agency’s president, Darlene Berberabe.

Berbarabe had denied the claim and said Binay did not want to appear in any Pag-Ibig ad.

“Cayetano once again displayed his trademark hypocrisy. Not only that, he again confirmed his reputation as the ‘Queen of Chismis’ and Intrigue in the Senate when he made that false statement about the vice president,” Tiangco said.

The UNA official said the senator could be accused of “false advertising” when he claimed in his political ads that there is no corruption in Taguig.

Tiangco cited the findings of the Commission on Audit (COA) saying there was overpricing in the city.

“No less than the Commission on Audit uncovered these shocking anomalies in its audit report. These are adverse findings of overpricing, missing inventories, ghost employees, overpayment,” Tiangco said.

“How can Cayetano reconcile these actual and verified audit findings with his TV ad message? That’s false advertising. Niloloko nya ang taumbayan gaya ng panloloko na ginagawa nila sa Senado sa kanilang mga kasinungalinan laban sa bise presidente,” he said.

According to Tiangco, Cayetano is also fond of “projecting” his values and actions, thinking that other public officials think and act the way he does.
