MRT appoints new general manager amid fare hike
MANILA, Philippines—The Metro Rail Transit (MRT 3) announced Monday that it has appointed a new general manager.
The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said engineer Roman Buenafe took his oath of office Monday as the new general manager of the MRT 3 replacing its officer-in-charge Renato San Jose.
Buenafe took his post amid the implemented fare hike of the MRT 3 and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2, which took effect on Sunday, January 4.
Several groups went to the Supreme Court on Monday to stop the fare increase.
In recent months, the MRT and LRT have drawn sharp criticisms from riders for the long queues at their stations during rush hour and for several operational glitches.
