MANILA — Filipino restaurant chain Gerry’s Grill will expand its presence overseas by opening a second branch in Singapore and its first branch in Qatar before the end of the year.

Pacific Grill Inc. president Gerry Apolinario said the strong performance of the first Gerry’s Grill branch in Singapore, located in the food court of the Marina Bay Sands, prompted the company to open another branch in the city-state.

The new branch, he said, would be a joint venture and would be located along an alley of restaurants on Orchard Road.

Apart from the new Singapore branch, he said Gerry’s Grill would also be entering the Middle East market via a branch in Qatar.

Pacific Grill recently awarded a master franchise to a local businessman in Qatar for the opening of the new branch. The Qatar branch would serve a slightly tweaked menu, with the restaurant chain’s signature pork sisig to be removed from the menu and replaced with bangus sisig.

The opening of the Singapore and Qatar branches will bring the number of Gerry’s Grill’s overseas branches to five. Its two other branches abroad are located in Union City in San Francisco and at Cerritos in Los Angeles.

Apolinario said Pacific Grill was also considering opening a Gerry’s Grill outlet in Dubai.

The restaurant chain’s overseas expansion, he said, was meant to bring Filipino cuisine to the global stage./inquirer
