‘Pedring weakens’ as it crosses Sierra Madre—Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon “Pedring” has weakened as it crossed the Sierra Madre mountain range, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, Pedring was seen at 100 kilometers east of Baguio and packing maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 150 kph. It has retained its speed and direction, moving west-northwest at 19 kph, Pagasa said in a press conference.

Signal No. 3 is up in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Nueva Viscaya, and Pangasinan.

At 2 p.m., Pedring is expected to be in the vicinity of Benguet.

Rainfall remains unchanged at 15-25 millimeters per hour, said Pagasa.

Signal No. 2 is raised in Apayao, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Zambales, Pampanga, Tarlac, Bulacan, Bataan and Metro Manila.

Signal No. 1 is up in Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands, Northern Quezon, including Polilio Island, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, including Lubang Island, and Cavite.

On Wednesday morning, Pedring is expected to be at 300 kms west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur and by Thursday morning is forecast to be at 710 west-northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
