The National Bureau of Investigation was created by virtue of Commonwealth Act No. 181 enacted on Nov. 13, 1936. It was originally called Division of Investigation but was reorganized into the Bureau of Investigation under the Department of Justice in 1947. It was renamed the NBI in 1949.
