Woman decapitated in Mexico for web posting

/ 10:16 AM September 25, 2011

MEXICO CITY – A woman’s decapitated body has been found in the Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo, with a sign saying she was killed for her postings on a social networking site.

The killing may be the third in which people in Nuevo Laredo were killed by a drug cartel for what they said on the internet.

Partly because local media are often too intimidated to report cartel violence, residents of Mexican border cities sometimes post under nicknames to report drug-related attacks or shootouts. Posting in this way allows a certain degree of anonymity.

The Tamaulipas state prosecutor’s office said the sign, the woman’s body and severed head were found on Saturday.

Two young men were found dead in Nuevo Laredo earlier this month with a similar message.
