PDEA destroys P7.5M worth of marijuana plants in Ilocos Sur

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has destroyed over P7.5 million in fully grown marijuana plants and seedlings discovered in several areas in Ilocos Sur.

The uprooted plants were found in 21 plantation sites in Barangay (village) Licungan, Sugpon town, which the PDEA raided with the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army.

“We will continue to sustain our intensified efforts to seek and wipe out marijuana plantation sites in the country,” said PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr.

The marijuana eradication operation was carried out early last Wednesday (Oct. 22) by the PDEA regional office, the Ilocos Sur police and the Philippine Army based in the province.

The marijuana plants were found in 21 cultivation sites measuring a total of 3,536 square meters.

Around 2,855 square meters contained 24,170 fully grown marijuana plants while 681 square meters had 30,600 marijuana seedlings and 30,500 grams of dried marijuana leaves.

Cacdac said the destroyed marijuana plants were worth P7,583,000.

“The success of this operation embodies the continuing culture of cooperation among all law enforcement agencies,” the PDEA director general added.
