7th Gov. Garcia Unity Cup opens

THE 7th edition of the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup kicks off today in what promises to be an action-packed weekend at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City.

Three games in the three different divisions highlight the opening playdate.

The newly installed elementary division features a match between Carcar and Argao while the women’s side will see Talisay facing off against Minglanilla. The men’s class will have the reigning champions Talisay City duking it out with Minglanilla.

The elementary division will be a 12-under mixed-gender competition while the men’s and women’s divisions are also bound to get younger as each team must have at least four high school players.

Opening the tournament will be Governor Gwendolyn Garcia. Also expected to grace the start of the tournament are Philippine Volleyball Federation president Gener Dungo and a representative from the Philippine Sports Commission.  Correspondent Jonas Panerio
