Bethany sweeps HS quiz elims

The Bethany Christian School again swept the high school eliminations of the 2nd BTC Knowledge Challenge last Saturday, Sept. 17.

The feat earned the school a berth in the finals, which will be held today at the Banilad Town Centre (BTC) in barangay Banilad, Cebu City.

Teams from other schools also survived the eliminations. PAREF Springdale’s first year contestants Shane Patrick Yu, Keoni Imanuel Tiu and Julian Sean Cobonpue bested the other freshmen teams, scoring 24.

Academia del Christifidelis led in the second year level with Jodane Paez, Patricia Lorraine Rojas and Hillary Ruce Morales scoring 19 points.

FEATURED STORIES

Childlink High School topped the third year level with 21 points by Reinard Justin Bacalso, Caryasa Therese Verzosa and Gene Robert Sales.

Marie Ernestine School (MES) ruled the fourth year level with Darryl Byron Famador, Jann Maxine Burdador and Ha Yeong Jeong earning 17 points.

The four Bethany secondary teams accumulated 67 points, boosting their chances of duplicating their championship title last year.

Six schools will have two teams returning for the final round this afternoon.

These are the Springdale, St. Theresa’s College, Cebu Eastern College, Academia, Childlink and St. Paul Learning Center.

Three other schools will have one team competing again in the finals.

These are the Cebu Bradford School, Don Bosco Technology Center and Harvest Christian School International.

Now in its second year, the “Knowledge Challenge” is in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) that reviewed the quiz items and provided the judges.

The contest has Jiggy Junior of Y101 FM as quiz master.

The champions in every level will receive BTC gold medals and gifts from BTC tenants, while the school with the most number of winning teams will get a trophy as overall champion.
