Did you know: Lope K. Santos’ 135th birth anniversary

Today, Sept. 25, is the 135th birth anniversary of novelist, poet, public servant and labor leader Lope K. Santos. Born in 1879 in Pasig, Santos is considered the Father of Filipino Grammar. Santos served as director of the Institute of National Language from 1941 to 1945 and taught at the University of the Philippines from 1937 to 1954. His work, the “Balarila ng Wikang Pambansa,” is the basis for Filipino grammar. He died on May 1, 1963. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
