MANILA, Philippines–Senate Pro Tempore Ralph Recto said  his wife, Batangas Governor Vilma   Santos, is qualified   to run for vice president but said   he prefers that she takes a break from work and   politics.

Recto   noted   that   his wife   has been   working since she was   nine years   old   and   has already   served   as Lipa Mayor and   now as governor   of Batangas.

But asked if   he thinks   Santos was qualified for the post,   Recto said: “There’s no doubt qualified siya…as she has her head in the right place, and her heart in the right place.”

“Although ang masasabi ko lang like I said already, mahigit 50 taon ng nagtatrabaho ang aasawa ko. Palagay ko (panahon na) para magpahinga (Although as I said already, my wife has been working for more than 50 years. I think it’s high time she takes a rest).”

Santos, 60, started her career as a child star in 1969. In 1998, she joined and won the mayoral race in Lipa City.

In 2007, Santos was elected governor of Batangas province and won reelection in May 2010.
