Police raid yields repacked NFA rice
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday raided a Bulacan warehouse filled with repacked sacks of government-distributed rice, Radyo Inquirer 990AM said.
Chief Inspector Elizabeth Jasmin, PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), spokesperson reportedly said that thousands of sacks of National Food Authority (NFA) rice were being repacked to be sold at higher prices as commercial rice.
Other reports said police nabbed two people working inside the warehouse in Marilao, Bulacan.
Consumers have been complaining of rising prices of basic commodities during the past several weeks.
Malacañang earlier said the rice price hike was only temporary and would normalize once harvest and planting season starts.
NFA’s distribution program was meant to keep prices stable and affordable through the unloading of cheaper priced rice to be sold by accredited retailers in the market.
