MANILA, Philippines—Two foreign nuns lost their laptop computers and cash in an apparent burglary at a convent in Quezon City on Thursday, police said Friday.

The robbery happened on Mabolo Street in Barangay Mariana where the nuns were staying temporarily with other members of the Religious of Notre Dame of the Missions.

The sisters, Indian national Lissy Sebastian, 52, and British subject Josephine Kane, 60, reported losing over P6,000 and 200 euros, laptops and documents in the break-in.

FEATURED STORIES

Kane had just arrived in the country that morning as a visitor of the order.

Prior to the discovery of the break-in, the victims joined their Filipino counterparts on the first floor of the nuns’ residence for some  Independence Day celebration.

After the festivities, Kane went up to her second-floor room to sleep but found it locked, prompting her to seek help from a Filipino nun.

Upon opening the door, the nuns discovered the room in disarray, with Kane’s Apple Macbook Air laptop, passport, driver’s license, P4,000 and 200 euros missing.

The adjacent room, which was Sebastian’s, was also ransacked and an HP Pro laptop, IDs, credit cards, P2,000 and other currencies also gone.

Dela Vega learned that the burglars entered and exited through a vent for air-conditioning.
