MANILA, Philippines—The Department of National Defense on Wednesday said that the capture of Khair Mundos would be a “big blow” to terrorism.

DND Spokesman Peter Paul Galvez said that they “hope” that the arrest of Mundos could dent the terror group Abu Sayyaf and its operations.

Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detention Group arrested Mundos Wednesday morning in Parañaque.

Mundos is the middle man between the Abu Sayyaf and international terror group Al Qaeda and has a $500,000 bounty on his head that the State Department of the United States imposed.

“The impact of the arrest is big on the Abu Sayyaf,” Galvez said. “We hope we really disrupted the funding of the group.”

With the arrest, Galvez said that the nation would take notice of their crackdown against terrorism.

“We hope to secure the whole nation against terrorism.”
